Royal Canadian Mounted Police
Policing is provided by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to the town of Deer Lake and surrounding communities. The RCMP recently opened a new facility in the town which will house the personnel to provide administrative support for its detachments in Comer Brook, Rocky Hr. and Baie Verte as well as the operational needs of the surrounding area.

Deer Lake and area has a micro-climate and enjoys a higher percentage of sunshine than any other place in the Province, except Goose Bay in Labrador, which is similar but colder in winter. Summers are warm and pleasant and the winters cold and crisp with adequate snow for skiing and snowmobiling.

The Deer Lake water supply is among the best and safest supplies of municipal drinking water in the world. The source, Grand Lake, provides an unlimited supply of good quality water to the Town.
A modern delivery system is connected to the Deer Lake Power Supply Penstocks. It is a gravity based system which has chlorination and two stage filtering with the most up to date water purification technology available.
Municipal Sanitation
The community has an incineration disposal method with collection taking place twice a week for residential and five times a week for commercial and industrial. Private container services are also available through local entrepreneurs.
Municipal Sewage Disposal
Deer Lake has sewerage disposal system in the majority of the community. The treatment of raw sewerage occurs in a lagoon system located on the eastern end of the community.
